Anxious about political tendencies in Germany which are sowing divisions with the US below President Trump, foreign-policy specialists have warned the incoming German authorities that the trans-Atlantic relationship have to be preserved in any respect prices.
In a manifesto titled “In Spite of It All, America,” the German signatories mentioned: “The liberal world order, with its basis in multilateralism, its international norms and values, its open societies and markets, is at risk” from the Trump administration due to its “America First” credo. However, the manifesto says, “It’s precisely this order on which Germany’s freedom and prosperity relies upon.”
“If Germany desires to be an efficient actor in Europe,” the paper says, “it wants the US.”
The doc, to be printed in Thursday’s version of the weekly Die Zeit newspaper, means that the federal government ought to consider the basics of the trans-Atlantic relationship with the US, like safety, and keep away from extra contentious points like commerce and migration.
